WETT Inspection Services Canada

If your home has a wood-burning fireplace, stove, insert, or chimney, a WETT inspection is essential for safety and insurance compliance. Atta-Boy's certified WETT inspectors assess your wood-burning systems to ensure they meet Canadian safety standards; protecting your family and your investment.

What Is a WETT Inspection?

WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer. A WETT inspection is a formal assessment of any solid-fuel burning system in a home, including:

  •  Wood-burning fireplaces and inserts
  • Wood stoves and pellet stoves
  • Chimneys and flue systems
  • Outdoor fire pits and wood boilers

WETT inspections are commonly required by insurance companies and mortgage lenders before a home sale can be completed. Without a passing WETT inspection, you may be unable to get coverage for your wood-burning appliances.

What Does a WETT Inspection Cover?

Our certified WETT inspectors examine every component of your solid-fuel burning system, including:

  • Clearances to combustibles
  • Chimney condition, liner, and cap
  • Firebox and smoke chamber integrity
  • Installation compliance with CSA and building code standards
  • Creosote buildup and fire hazard assessment
  • Proper air supply and ventilation

You'll receive a formal WETT inspection report that can be submitted directly to your insurance provider or lender.

When Do You Need a WETT Inspection?

A WETT inspection is recommended or required in several situations:

  • When buying or selling a home with a wood-burning appliance
  • When applying for or renewing home insurance
  • When making changes to an existing wood-burning system
  • When a wood-burning appliance hasn't been inspected in several years
  • After a chimney fire or other incident
